Hello Dolphins!

My name is Kate, and I am excited to kick off my first season with the Golden Dolphins this summer.

My parents discovered my love for the water at just five months old when I was enrolled in my first swimming lesson. I began swimming competitively at the age of four, and have over 20 years of competitive experience. I swam club for many years, qualifying for my first Olympic Trials at age 14. After high-school I continued my swimming career at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. During my time at Laurier, I studied Kinesiology in addition to swimming as a varsity athlete. I served as the captain for 4 consecutive seasons, was awarded Rookie of the Year, and MVP for 3 consecutive years, as well as Laurier’s Athlete of the Week 6 times throughout my career. During my time at Laurier, I also competed for the Oakville Aquatic Club at National Championships, World Trial, Pan American Trials, and Olympic Trials. My swimming career came to an end last April as I graduated, but I still love getting my sweat on in the pool, at Crossfit, yoga, and on hikes!

I began my coaching career 4 years ago with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club, in addition to offering private swimming lessons at Swim With Kate. Last summer I moved out to Canmore, Alberta to coach the Canmore Coho Swim Club. I am currently completing my Masters Degree in Coaching at the University of Alberta in addition to coaching with the Golden Bears and Pandas. My current research interests include: athletic burnout, positive youth development through sport, and females in coaching roles. Swimming has taught me many valuable lessons both in and out of the pool, and it is my priority to stay involved and give back to the next generation. I am passionate about passing on my extensive knowledge of training, competing, and balancing school and work-life as an athlete.

I am looking forward to having a great summer with you all!

WELCOME
Coach Kate and Coach Zara!

Hi Dolphins!

My name is Zara and I am very excited to spend the summer coaching you all!
I was born and raised in Golden, where I have spent the past fifteen summers swimming with the Golden Dolphins Swim Club. The Golden Dolphins have been a huge part of my life and I am so excited to continue on with the club, now in a coaching role.
My love for water started at a young age and has continued to enrich my life in many ways. Growing up, if I wasn’t at the pool in Golden, you could find me at our cabin in Salmon Arm practicing in the lake. When I was six, I qualified for my first B.C.S.S.A Provincial Championships and at age 13 I won my first provincial medal. From there, I went on to receive an overall total of 7 provincial medals. Swimming with the Dolphins has provided me with a fundamental foundation and has taught me the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. In high school, I swam for the Golden Secondary School Eagles. This was challenging because Golden does not have a winter training facility (as we know all too well) but I was still able to win a medal at the high school Provincial Championships. I believe it is important for everyone to find something they love to do, and for me that love is swimming! In the off-season, I love to downhill ski, cross-country ski, do yoga and mountain bike.
For the past two summers, I balanced my swimming life with my work life. I worked as a Lifeguard at the Golden Swimming Pool, taught many swimming lessons and ran the Aqua-fitness program. Last fall, I moved away from home to attend the University of Lethbridge. I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education with the overall goal of becoming an Elementary School Teacher. In addition to my studies, I am swimming as a varsity athlete with the Pronghorns. In October, I received Swimmer of the Month and I am currently involved with the Junior Pronghorn program where I am coaching young athletes and having a lot of fun. I am extremely grateful for this experience and have been really enjoying my time as a Pronghorn.
Being a part of the Golden Dolphins Swim Club has taught me many valuable life lessons, provided me with great friendships and shaped me into the person I am today. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you and can’t wait for an amazing summer!
