COACHING POSITIONS – SUMMER 2018

Applications are now being accepted for the Head Coach position of the Golden Dolphins Swim Club and the Assistant Coach position. The Golden Dolphins is a not-for-profit Summer Swim Club in Golden, BC located in the East Kootenay region. Golden is surrounded by six National Parks, world class mountain biking, hiking trails, and white water rafting and kayaking. The Golden Dolphins Swim Club is well known as a fun and passionate club; we compete in the Okanagan Region of the BCSSA and in recent years have produced Provincial medallists and record holders.  

When applying please specify which position you are applying for, each of these positions require 100% commitment to all practices and swim meets for the full season, May 7th 2018 to August 19th 2018. 

HEAD COACH

DUTIES:  You are the primary coach and role model for the club’s Division 1-8 swimmers. You have the ability to develop and implement an inspiring swim program for both developing swimmers and experienced swimmers from ages 5 to 18. Your practices are well planned and organized with a balanced and equal focus on improving technical skills, competitive spirit and having fun. As Head Coach you are consistent in your support, enthusiasm and respect for all club athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for monitoring athlete attendance, goal setting and improvement, is the direct supervisor of the Assistant Coach and along with Assistant Coach actively mentors and develops the Club’s junior coaches. You have excellent communication skills that enable you to communicate openly and consistently with the Board of Directors as well as respond appropriately to questions and concerns from the club parents. The Head Coach is responsible for providing articles for local media and must be capable of using the systems in place for entering swimmers into meets. Social media posts for the Dolphins will also be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  You have attained certification to a minimum of Level 1 NCCP or equivalent. You have previous experience working as a swim coach in a competitive environment and experience as a competitive swimmer. A current criminal background check must be provided prior to commencing employment. The applicant must have one season of coaching experience as a head or assistant coach. Preference will be given to a qualified level 1 NCCP level 1 or higher.  

COMPENSATION:  This is a seasonal contract position; salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Travel expenses are reimbursed according to club policy.

ASSISTANT COACH

DUTIES: As Assistant Coach you are an inspiring role model and coach for the club’s swimmers ages 5 to 18. You work under the guidance and supervision of the Club Head Coach to develop and implement a passionate summer swim program for swimmers of various abilities and goals. Your practices are well planned, organized and provide an equal focus on technique improvement, competitive skills and fun. You have the ability to inspire the club athletes and treat all swimmers equally with care, guidance and enthusiasm. Your skills as a coach and experiences as a competitive swimmer allow you to provide thoughtful and timely feedback to the athletes. As Assistant Coach you will be responsible for working with the Head Coach to monitor athlete attendance and improvement, help with goal setting, and directly supervise, mentor and develop the Club’s junior coaches. You have excellent communication skills that enable you to maintain open communication with the Head Coach, junior coaches, club executive and club parents.
